Favorite destination in the world?
In a world that is so full of amazing terrain it's tough to choose but a very special place to me is the Sierra Nevada.
Favorite meal?
My favorite meal is one cooked over an open fire with fresh ingredients, and then Mexican.
How often do you train?
Everyday. It's so important to my physical and mental wellbeing.
What kind of training do you do?
If you had to label me I'd say I'm a runner but I do like to mix it up between skiing, biking, packrafting, climbing, and really just about anything that gets me outdoors.
What gives you energy during your training sessions?
For the most part it's the motivation that if I don't put in the work, I'm not going to hit my goal. Then it's GU!
How do you train during the darker season?
The biggest hurdle is getting out the door so having something motivating, like a race or goal, that will help get you over that activation barrier is critical. Having the right gear to be comfortable and enjoy being outside is a close second when it's cold out.
What should you think of/consider if you want to start trail running?
Running is a pretty simple thing but the most important to consider when starting trail running is the safety aspect. Knowing how not to get lost, how to evaluate the trail you'll be running, and and the gear you need to pack.
What’s your favorite type of training?
My favorite workout might just be a long run through the mountains. I do enjoy getting my heart rate up during a good VO2 session though.
How do you prepare yourself before a competition?
Going into a competition the thing that helps me most is trusting in my process and all the work I've put in. That gives me the mental strength I need to succeed.
What are you best running tips?
Work on your form and technique. This helps so much in areas of having fun running, staying healthy, and being efficient.
What’s the most fun race for the happy beginner?
From my perspective, it would have to be the fun, laid-back small town trail races that provide that fun community feel that the big races just don't have.
